Funny thing about this comic is, there’s a bit of truth to that last panel. See, Ray pretty much bought the 360 on a whim for Sonic Unleashed and the system happened to come with Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda. Once he finished Sonic Unleashed, Ray moved on to the Panda and promptly kung fu’d the achievements. This was slightly infuriating to me as I beat Lost Planet twice in that span of time to gain my measly 450 points to his 850 from Stupid Panda. Shouldn’t ‘hardcore’ points be worth more? Or maybe for kiddie games, they just give you demerits instead of achievements if you’re over 18 years old. Anyhow, we had fun with this one coming up with ‘hardcore’ mashup titles for poor Ray to stumble over. And we hope you enjoy the return of a Tim and Ray comic as we’ve been gone for quite some time!
I’m holding out for My Horse and Me 3…in the meanwhile, I’ll just be content to Imagine Babiez.
Nice comic though guys…
Also, Secret Agent Royal Jew.
http://www.destructoid.com/from-russia-with-love-and-confusion-secret-agent-royal-jew–31137.phtml
Wow Ray, you didn’t get any achievements for playing Unleashed…
Did you not even play the game…
Well…
that explains your review.
jk
Haha! Excellent comic guys! This one was really well thought out. And it’s good to see Tim and Ray in the comics again. Oh, and the logo is awesome. š
I believe Ray has like 890 on Sonic Unleashed. Personally, I tried KFP and couldn’t do it. By the Eye of Omnistar XII that game sucks. I did play the hell out of Lego Indy.
But see? This is why I don’t care for gamer points. Most are lame and the entire thing does NOTHING for you. If these were skill points off Ratchet & Clank where it unlocked concept art and stuff like that, I’d be all for it. Few give you anything.
Great Comic!!!
Its ok Ray, if I had a 360, my gamertag thingy would look really similiar.
I don’t get it… Why’d you guys screen capture and use my gamer tag page?
Made me chuckle before the punchline. *pokes logo* Anyway, NCG.
Oh and Dewy’s Adventure is annoying.
It’s true that your total gamerscore is more about the number of games that you’ve played than how good you actually are.
Especially if you include games like Avatar:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv-kv4QJnV8
Individual achievements can be really nice to gain though. There’s a huge sense of… errr… achievement I guess… when you finally beat a tough target. I really like that you can compare gamertags with your friends and see which achievements they have that you don’t. It can add a real sense of competition when an achievement that you gave up on turns up on a friend’s gamer tag.
For example, when I added Tim as a friend and had a look at his achievements I was very impressed to see that he’d got Mile High Club in CoD4 – that’s one tough cookie.
I’ve pretty much convinced myself that I have to fire that game up and max it out myself, so I can join the mile high club with Tim……..
Wait, that didn’t come out quite right.
(and yes, I did rent Avatar and pimp my gamerscore by a cool 1k, but I’m not proud of it ;-p )
Actually, Gears of Shock sounds interesting. Release date?
I think you should do Tim & Ray comics more often.
I personally think last weeks comic and this weeks podcast was pretty lame.
Exactly. The points need to do something ingame or outgame, just do something.
That’s it. Your reputation is ruined! Anyone whose played ANY HSM title is officially NOT hardcore!! š
Great Comic Guys! I laughed at this point by the time Ray started stumbling over games. It’s actually quite interesting that I know what titles he was trying to say. A year or two ago, those titles (or rather similar titles of the day) would have meant nothing to me. It’s fun being hooked into the gaming sphere…
[small]even though I don’t play many of those…[/small]
hehe lol… is the kung fu panda for xbox longer than the 1 on the wii?
Hey guys! I just noticed you’re on comic 97! What are you going to do for the hundredth? If it doesn’t make me lol, I’m never visiting the site again!
Just kidding, but still, make it awesome.
Also, Tim, when we gonna do that Lost Planet multiplayer?
Too bad there’s no “Imagine Babysitters” for the 360
WOW me and ray have the same games.
Funny comic guys. I definitely thought that there was only going to be Sonic Unleashed there at first XD It’s good to see you guys in a comic. That hasn’t happened since… *checks* …ah, the infamous pool of money!
Welcome back
Yeah…but there are a lot more were-panda stages on the Wii version.
Not meaning to sound whiney, but if Ray spent so much time on Sonic Unleashed, then why isn’t that on his Xbox LIVE Achievements Summary?
OMG! Tim hacked his way into Ray’s Xbox online account! Either that, or he just looked at it from Ray’s computer . . .
Watch it! That almost sounded like a Sonic Unleashed reference! We’ve been over this before. No more Sonic Unleashed on this website! Right, Tim? Ray, don’t answer!
NCG.
Just as good of a podcast. I love how Ray tried to mimic Tim’s monotone voice throughout the exciting seven minutes. Which covered everything your regular 30+ minute podcasts do.
Next time you need another person, e-mail me. I’ll throw in a monotone or excited child-like voice for free.
The worst example of an Achievement not being worth as many points as it should be is Smash TV (XBLA). Beating the game on one continue: 50 gamerpoints.
Ray may an adult, but his gaming habits say otherwise…
You wanna trade Pokemans or play Lego “already existing franchise for adults but toned down so it is for kids” ? š
Blasphemy! š
Actually, it encourages you to keep playing games until you “complete” them, giving “complete” a measurable quantity. Especially if you’re more than a little OCD…
Plus, it encourages teamwork. š
ray must be going psyco from sonic unleashed
Hey, don’t be mocking the Lego series, they’re awesome.
And Pokemon…well, other than the fact that they add hundreds of pointless dumb new Pokemon every time, the gameplay is pretty good.
Woah, I just got an awesome idea. What would all of the achievements for 2P START! be? I’ve got a few ideas.
Awaken From the Grave: 10G: Make your first comment.
Dedicated Member: 25G: Comment on at least 10 comics.
Librarian: 100G: Read every comic in the archives (including the bonus comics).
2P START! LIVE Fanatic: 200G: Listen to every podcast (from start to finish).
FIRST!: 0G: Get the first comment on a comic.
The Impossible Dream: 50G: Comment on the first 2P START! comic.
I’ll come up with some more later. š
I agree for the most part on the Pokemon part, I like how most of them this time around are North American animals (I liked Buizel/Floatzel, I basically beat the game with that one Pkmn) I wonder how will they top the legendaries next game? Even more godlier than god-type pokemon?
I liked what little I played of Lego Star Wars II, I was just pointing out that Ray isn’t exactly what they’d call “Hardcore”
There’s always some sort of addiction plaguing Ray.
Neat logo too. š
True, they aren’t hardcore, but “not hardcore” =/= “not awesome”. And as for legendary Pokemon, I think they are overdiluting that. I mean, in the first game, there were what, 4 legendaries, not counting Mew? The 3 birds and Mewtwo? Now, there are what, like 20some? Back in the old games, being legendary meant something. Now they’re a dime a dozen.
I like how “First” is 0 points. But what about:
“Great Commenter”: Be featured in “Suggestion Box”.
I found this site a few weeks ago through an ad on Dueling Analogs. The comics are petty funny, and the amount of extra content on the site is amazing. I love listening to the podcasts, and reading the reviews. I love you guys.
Actually, the 360 versions of all of those titles are actually pretty hardcore:
Disney: Bring It!
My Whores and Me 2
Kung Fu Pain
High School Maniac 3: Serious Fear Trance
Cars: Hater Irrational
Open Treason
There goes comment of the week.
Come on Ray! Only one more achievement on “My Horse and Me 2” left! And it’s worth 100 points! You gotta do it, even if it means releasing your horse that you’ve trained for 400 hours back into the wild (yes, that was a pokemon reference lol)
36, if I counted correctly.
Now fans are sorting them into categories like:
Legendary trios-
Uber- Mewtwo, deoxys
Cute- mew, celebi
and stuff like that…
I like, however, that catching them all isn’t a requirement. Another thing, the games reflect real life, One continent’s folklore is different from another, thus explaining all the ‘legendary’ pokemon.
lol…
it looks like Ray’s blurb got deleted again…
Tim, did you listen to the last podcast, btw?
If you haven’t, YOU NEED TO.
Speaking of the podcast, Ray, THANK YOU for bringing back Remix! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU…
(two hours later)
t..han..k…y…o…(gasp wheeze)..u….
Also, comic number 97! Almost at 100! Be sure to do a super duper special comic for it!
Sorry for double-posting, but I saw this, and I was thinking: “Woah. I have ALL of those except for ‘FIRST!’, I think… Holy crap!”
So I either have 335 or 385 (im not sure I have ‘The Impossible Dream’)
Also, very awesome idea. I WANT ALL THOSE POINTS!
EDIT: 335.
It’s ‘The Impossible Dream’ cause it’s no longer possible to comment on the first one.
Tim, Ray, FIX IT!!!!
Gah. Triple-posting. I tried editing my above one, but it timed out while trying to save and the changes didn’t register. I HATE THAT.
Anyway,
335.
It’s ‘The Impossible Dream’ because it’s impossible to comment on the first comic anymore.
Tim, Ray, FIX IT!
Do I hear a ‘second’?
-_- i hate this.
now my other comment fixed itself.
tim, ray, could one of you delete both this one and the redunant one above this one?
Got a couple more achievements. š
Honorable Mention: 50G: Get mentioned on the podcast’s Suggestion Box.
One of Many: 0G: Get mentioned on the podcast’s Suggestion Box with your first comment on the site.
Oh, and the achievement from the logo counts towards your gamerscore as well. And since you’ve read this comment, you had to have visited this site, and therefore, you already have the achievement. Cheers!
Also, I just realized this. What’s with the glowing outlines?
Most artists just add shadows on the background, but I guess you guys are just saintly. -Ba dum PSH-
Wii-chievment unlocked.
I collected everything to collect in Sonic Unleashed Wii.
Now give me your praise and Adulation!
I think it should be 100 panels long, with the first 99 being a copy-pasta from one of the previous comics.
The final panel could just be a big number 100.
I have those too.
My first comments were on the ‘Untold Origins’ comic, and I posted like 12 comments on it.
“My comment of the week goes to not one comment, but 12 comments.”
Awesomeness.
For anyone who doesn’t believe me, check out podcast number 5. (I went by a different name at that time. Check some of the older comics, and you’ll see this avatar with a different name under it)
Or, not just copy & paste from any comic, but each panel is a copy-paste from each consecutive comic…panel 1 is from comic 1, panel 2 is from comic 2, etc.
Sort of like the sbemail “rock opera” for any Homestar fans out there.
Seeing how ray and me have the same games I disagree with you.
Great jorb guys! (NC)
I’ve got a few games I wouldn’t mind playing on that three hundred 60 box machine, but the same thing would probably happen with me. I’d get like Street Fighter 4, and a bunch of interesting little downloadable titles or something… heh.
Yeah, realistically there are a few more that sort of pique my interest, like RE5 and… well, I’m sure there are some others! Heh, maybe I’m too much of a Nintendo fanboy, I’m sorry, can’t help it!
I was actually wondering why that was today, and I think it’s because they’ve been around for so long that I respect them. Generally Nintendo fans tend to be more into retro gaming than other gamers perhaps for that very reason. I’ve also got more respect for Sega, and of course the old Atari VCS (2600) than other more recent brands. Oh, another big reason is that Nintendo is a console/software making company. That’s it. It’s what they do. The other companies are vast entities that don’t necessarily bank on their gaming business to survive.
Sorry ’bout my crazy posts, I just got lot’s to say, and I try to condense it, and it ends up not making sense.
EDIT: BY THE WAY, YOU KNOW I LOVE THE “TIM AND RAY” COMICS!!! Keep ’em coming fellas! (at least slightly more often)
Ncg, I’m about to look up Ray’s Gamertag!
just wondering, have any of you checked out Zero Punctuation’s review of Sonic Unleashed?
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/472-Sonic-Unleashed
fixd not that I hate ZP (I love him) but he does more of a rant then a review. just my opinion.
Ray on the 360?!?! THE HORROR! hahaha
I want all those mash-up games.
Or Dead 4 Left. Which ever…
