January 12th, 2009
In this episode, Tim and Ray are joined by guest artist Richard Aguirre to talk about Comic 100 and how it was made. Plus, another fan rises from his grave, Ray finds some Internet Loot, THREE Black Doom awards are handed out, and Richard picks a Musical Misfit!

First!
I’m glad that I got that out of my system.
But I’m also sad because I’m never gonna get Comment of the Week! But at least I managed to boost my gamerscore up a few points by leaving the first comment. Oh, shoot! I just realized that’s only for comics! Now I’m sad again . . .
lolz. i was surprised that i got the suggestion box award. thanks guys.
How about Internet “Treasure”? Plunder? Spoils? yarr.
Yeah, that comic was well worth rioting in the streets the day before it came out. Great job Richard, as a fellow guest artist, you are an inspiration for me, Don’t worry. I’m coming up with a new one sooner that you guys won’t regret me making.
Nice podcast guys! I have some suggestions for Musical Misfits next week. They are all from the game “The Legend of the Mystical Ninja”. I wanted to give you a few to choose from:
Boss Music
Horo Temple
Awaji Island
Great Podcast again. It was very nice having Richard on the show.
But its ok that you have a sonic hat Ray. I own a Yoshi hat. I made it myself. I did a relay for life and my groups theme was video games and we all dressed up as characters.
and then it got cancelled due to rain.
stupid rain.
Okay, I jotted down a couple of things this time, but there’s nothing really that I need to say…except one and I doubt I even have to say what it is: Corruption:
Okay, no offense to Richard, this is just a pet peeve of mine. It’s either called the Phazon Beam or Hyper Mode. Not the “Super Hyper Mode Gun”. XD
Also Ray, I assume you are talking about the Metroid series in general, because you don’t have to switch beams in Corruption, nor do you have to shoot a door with a missile after the first time (actually, that’s not even the case in any of the games).
The doors work fine. My only complaint is that, yes, sometimes you are being attacked and you want the door to open. In that case, I say we look to Prime Hunters (only time I’ll ever say that) in which there were hallways, so you shoot a door and it would immediately open and lead you to a hallway in which you would shoot another door and the level would load in the safety of the hallway.
NO WAY!!!! I got Comment of the Week!!? I’ve been dreaming of this day for months! Thanks for pronouncing my name correctly, Tim! This day rocks! I’m going to listen to this episode every single day for the rest of my life! I now have 2P Start dominance above all other commenters! Mwahaha!
i wish i had a “Super Hyper Mode Gun” T.T
Ray, does this mean we can be Facebook friends? I’ve been waiting for an excuse to send you a friend request for weeks. I think you choosing me a Commenter of the Week is cause enough.
Yeah, but unlike you, I have been labeled a nitpicker. Yes, I take pride in that. XD
bro, i already tried. he only accepts friend requests from people that he actually knows.
Yes, I know. But now we both are Commenters of the Week. Maybe, just maybe, that elevates us to the virtual friend level with Ray. Maybe.
True, I cannot dominate over the One Labeled Nitpicker.
Now that I see your avatar (or rather actually paid attention to it XD) I see that you’re as bad as, if not worse, than me. I hear my name on the podcast and I’m like “w00t!” XD Even if it’s when I am apparently “nitpicking all the incorrect details” or picking the same Gamer Resolutions, or being obsessed with Trauma Center, or wanting a 360….I think those are the times I’ve been mentioned (yes, I have no life, I remember these things XD).
Yes, you should have seen the look on my face as I heard Ray stumble through pronouncing my nerdy username! I just glad I wasn’t operating any large machinery or doing anything important while I was listening! XD
My heart always skips a beat when I hear my name or in this case, Corruption getting a BDA. I was actually kinda surprised I wasn’t mentioned with Corruption…guess I show my AC obsession a little more. XD
I feel so nerdly or *insert adjective form of having no life here* with what I just said above.
You are however ahead of me because though I’ve been mentioned four times, I’ve never gotten comment of the week (and I swear, this isn’t an attempt to get it now).
Oh, and since we’re talking about the Sonic hat, I guess I can chip in with some weird AC stuff I have. First off, I got the card and game case reward from Club Nintendo (the playing cards are freaking awesome, though they don’t include Shrunk). Second, I’ve got a calendar from 2006, that lists all the holidays and events in Wild World and I keep it up all the time in case I ever play WW again and want to know which events are coming up. And finally, the one most comparable to the Sonic hat (though not really XD) are my Gulliver and Brewster stuffed animals. XD
Oh, and one thing I forgot, I took a screenshot in City Folk and printed it out on photo paper and put it above my calendar. XD Though I did the same with Metroid Prime 1 and 3, as well as Mario Kart Wii (though they’re above the Prime Hunters, Prime 3, and SSBB posters respectively).
dude, as soon as i heard my name, i started laughing like a hyena. thats my nervous twitch.
I’m surprised you never got CofW. I thought you would have had it by now, being here so long. Anyway, where’d you get the Wild World calendar? Or is that just a regular calendar that you wrote all the events in?
It was in an issue of Nintendo Power.
I’m mostly a Zelda fan, but all I have besides the games/strategy guides is a t-shirt. The one thing I really want is a Toon Link Plushie, though. I’m pretty sure the link below is a picture of it, but I just did a Google Image search, so it might not be the official one I’ve seen before.
Link (haha, get it?)
Doesn’t it just beg you to buy it? I hear they sell them at the Nintendo World Store, so I want to find a way to get there some time.
Also, on the topic of AC (and completely off topic from the podcast), I have to say I really don’t like the worn-down path feature of City Folk. It sounds like a good idea, but since my brother and I both run around most of our town looking for the money rock/fossils/etc., our town has barely any snow left. That means it’s a pain in the butt finding any snow left to make the snowman on. Plus, having probably about a third of our town being somewhere between snowy and dirt, it looks like crap.
The dirty disc error is kind of famous in the 360 gaming world.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816779
It doesn’t always have anything to do with a dirty disc. In the worst case it can mean that your 360 is on the way out 🙁
If it’s only happening with one game it could even be that the save data is corrupt.
Wow, Ray knew about the door loading in Metroid. First seen in Jak & Daxter. Color me impressed because few know that’s why tumble locks in animations take longer than others. *claps*
As for Tim’s Black Doom, being the UBER nerd that I am, allow me to explain. For two reasons, actually. The first to point out that installing the game to the hard drive is nothing more than disc cloning. This is the same tactics as early PS3 ports that required a mandatory install. For the most part, this works. The second is so that your faith in game installs is NOT shaken since 360 has two specific weakpoints. The GPU and the Disc Drive. The less you work either, the longer your system will last. One can’t be helped, unfortunately.
The problem you encountered is an error in common with games that use the hard drive as a temporary cache. Games like Halo 3 and most recently Prince of Persia. You see, you works like this. The game, detecting free space on the hard drive, will move files into a temp folder to be dumped at the end of gameplay. This technique, however, doesn’t take hard drive installs into account. So essentially the game is trying to run your hard drive as both hard drive and disc drive. This is where the problems come in. Most games simply take longer to load or slow down dramatically (Oblivion, Halo 3) but on occassion they CAN error out. So the game isn’t busted nor is installing games as an option. Fact of the matter is the “install to hard drive” is not a true install and when devs get creative to make their games run on a system, it can cause issues.
God I’m a nerd….
Woah, Richard’s voice sounds like a demon. Either that or a bad microphone. I’m thinking the latter. Demons can’t draw that well.
The cane was a very classy touch. Adds a little flair to it.
I made my own Ash hat. I did Ash for Halloween two years ago and made the hat. I rarely wear it, but when I do I can’t help but smile. But that is a creepy picture there Ray.
Dark? Gritty? Sounds like Batman.
Nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh BATMAN!!!
I would write more, but I have finals.
Oh, I must have missed that issue. Darn.
After the hat discussion on the podcast, that was all I could think about for a while. Dude that thing was creepy. But hey, that’s cool. I still have my Pikachu plushie from back in the day on my shelf- I mean, jeez. XD
Anyway, nice podcast and (since I didn’t leave a comment on the comic) Kudos for making it all the way to comic 100! That is an impressive accomplishment for sure and I hope you guys feel encouraged to get even better!
I thought that was common knowledge…or maybe just for me.
Hey, another guest! Those podcasts are always really good. 🙂 And another Richard comic would be really cool sometime!
Awesome! Thanks for the comment of the week! That hat’s super creepy in that picture. I think it’d give small children (even Sonic fans) nightmares. 😛
That Internet Loot was hilarious, and slightly disgusting. 😕
I’ve never been a big fan of installing the game to your 360. I realize that it’s to make sure that you can’t steal the data from one of your friends, but it just seems kind of pointless that you have to have the disk in the drive to play it. Not to mention that it takes up a huge amount of memory.
I looked at some videos on Youtube of E4, and it was extremely weird, even compared to Rez. I could hardly even tell what you were supposed to be doing. Now that I do know, I’ll see about getting a demo for it. You know, once my 360 is fixed. 🙁
Speaking of my 360, I have a Black Doom Award this week. I absolutely hate Microsoft’s “customer support”. I’d love to go into more detail, but this comment is long enough as it is, so I’ll post it as an additional comment.
You know, that’s a really good point about the doors in Metroid. I mean, they say that it’s to keep out outside creatures, or something along those lines. But my question is, why makes doors like that on an important ship with no hostile creatures? And why can’t anyone else open these doors but Samus?
Finally, Nice Podcast Guys! I remember playing Vectorman once on Sonic Mega Collection. I didn’t get very far, but then again, I never got very far on any of the games on it.
If you guys are still doing remix, I would to recommend “The Doomsday” a remix of the domsday zone from Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s on ocremix so it should be easy to find.
This is better. XD

Alright, so as you know, my 360 bricked on me recently. So, I go to xbox.com to request a repair. Once there, it tells me that I need to register my 360 in order to request a repair. I think to myself, “Well, that makes sense.” So I fill out this form, and then it tells me that the 360 had already been registered! There’s no other way to request a repair, so I call customer support.
I have to go through this annoying automated message which has nothing to do with my problem. Finally, I get to talk to a live representative. I believe that he was from India, so I had an extremely hard time understanding him. We go through this whole pointless process of checking to make sure that the 360 is actually broken. I also have to explain the complicated story of getting my cousin’s 360 as a gift. So once we’re finished, he tells me that I have to pack up my 360 in my own box, and gives me a code to get a shipping label to put on it.
I go online, and find where to put the code. I put it in, and it says that it doesn’t match up. So I try a few different zip codes that it could be, and those don’t work either. We have to call customer support again, and it turns out that you have to log out to redeem your shipping label. Who would think to log out, to redeem a code for the same account? Anyway, we’ve got it all sorted out, and I’ll send my 360 in soon. So, while frustrating, it turns out to have a (semi) happy ending.
Um. Okay that’s annoying Meta, I really hope ours never Red Rings, though I’m sure it will eventually. But I have to ask what did that story have to do with the podcast?
Well, in my original post, I said how I couldn’t play a demo of E4 because my 360 had bricked. And that reminded me of how irratating it was to get it fixed. Not to mention that it was a Black Doom Award from me, so it’s (technically) related to every podcast. Clearly. 🙄
P>This is better. XD

Thanks, Dominator_101. I’m not planning on using these for Monday’s podcast, but for future reference, please have your submissions be the actual version from the game – not MIDI versions. Thanks!
Ah yes, I can see the butterflies burning now (way less creepy if you know what I’m talking about XD).
Wow, I was mentioned in your podcast. My life is now complete… and not even 18 yet.
Small problem though: I had just come to the site, not been lurking here for years or something.
Sorry for the misunderstanding!
But thank you for mentioning me! *very happy smiley*
