Kiss and Run

TimI’m not sure what to say about this comic except that I think it turned out great. Ray did a great job with all the expressions, a tough task considering there’s no dialogue. Hope you guys enjoy it. And since I know the comments will start filling up with questions like, “Isn’t Birdo really a guy?“, let me give you my take. In SMB2 there were 3 different Birdos you fought, none of which had bows on their heads. Yes, the instruction manual said it was a guy that wanted to be a girl (or something like that), but clearly there must be a race of Birdos, like there is a race of Yoshis. So the Birdo currently used by Nintendo in Mario titles is a girl, case closed. Now to explain how Yoshi can lay eggs…

RayI think I need to go wash my hands now.

  1. Andrew says:

I think this is one of the best ones you have done.

I kinda wanted to see their mutant baby though.

  2. says:

Wow, the artwork in this comic is amazing!

  3. D3vin says:

Funny comic, Q*bert and Birdo do make a cute couple.

  4. Dragonblader1 says:

When I read the title I thought it would be terrible. I’m glad I was wrong. I’m also glad it’s video game related. This is a good comic though.

  5. dr. game says:

I think the last panal represents what a lot of dead beat dads do

  6. hyper says:

this is the same story my parents told when i ask
    “where do baby’s come from?”

  7. tustin says:

So, so, so, so…….. They made a baby?! This means that we watched an act of conception?!?! The rating on this site has suddenly skyrocketed!! No longer should children be allowed to view it’s contents!! Outrage!! Blasphemy!!! Etc Etc!!!!

    *cough cough* Sorry. 🙂

[Insert lame comparison of Ray to Pontius Pilate here]

  8. CJ says:

As someone who has done extensive Birdo research, let me clear the air on this issue. In Super Mario Bros 2, Birdo was in fact a man who wanted to be a woman.

However, perhaps Nintendo of Japan got some complaints about this or decided they would get some complaints? So in future games with Birdo (Mario Kart and the like) they from then on just said it was a girl, thereby ret-conning the gender of Birdo in America. In Japan she/he may still be a dude, I’m not sure. I do know that they’ve gone so far as to show Birdo and Yoshi holding hands in one manual, so Birdo is definitely a woman in America. Or Yoshi is gay. Or Yoshi is female and Birdo is male.

    • Myuu says:

Yoshis are asexual. They reproduce by eating. If Birdo is a transvestite, Yoshi may not have even noticed.

  9. Psyco says:

Man this comic is awesome, however I would suggest this happy couple takes a little advice from my friend Mr. Trojan man.

On an unrelated note, after being inspired by the comment from two weeks ago, I went ahead and listened to every episode of the podcast and read every comic.

  10. zhinker says:

This one is a hall of fame-er for you guys

  11. lwelyk says:

Hey I might have been at work. >: (

Anyway, disturbing, yet funny. Disturbingly funny and funnily disturbing.

Oh and the art was good.

  12. Troy says:

This comic is instantly a classic.

  13. Lilguitarist says:

Haha, this is an awesome one guys.

A nice one that everyone can enjoy without having to know the games too much *hint hint*

The artwork is some of the best of recent.

  14. dj75728 says:

RUN Q’BERT!!! GO TO AFRICA!!! There’s no child support beyond the trees  …..

But yeah, GCG(Great Comic Guys). Definantely one for the portfolio, huh Ray 😉 ?

BTW, Anyone who bought Okami, Capcom is offering a replacement for your game covers(cause of the watermark if you don’t know). You can either get a new cover, or choose from two new pieces of Okami artwork for you. Click here to get a new cover.

  15. Tristan says:

    That… is just… weird.

  16. Psyco says:

No amount of cover up can go over the shame created by that watermark, it’s just sad, although it’s also really funny. Well, actually, a free copy of mariokart(sans wheel) would be nice.

  17. Baka says:

    This is oddly disturbing.

  18. Dakaggo says:

    My explanation is way better.

    SMB2 = Pre-op
    Afterwards = Post-op

Thus explaining the change in gender. Birdo simply had a sex change operation after SMB2.

  19. ObscureLarry says:

This is… it’s… Jesus, I need to go read Garfield or Beetle Bailey or something.

    Hilarious comic.

  20. Lava says:

…Now I just feel dirty looking at their nose holes! (NCG)

  21. dj75728 says:

…Now I just feel dirty looking at their nose holes! (NCG)

At least there’s no type discharge or fluid involved 😛

  22. Very funny idea and execution. I never realized that Birdo had the same basic snout as Q*Bert and it makes for a funny joke. Actually, there were multiple punchlines.

  23. Psyco says:

So hows about some Mario Kart Wii talk in the podcast, as much as I hate to say it, the game was well worth it, not only are the new tracks awesome, the online play is simply beautiful and the wheel was actually worth it(I know that sounds like I’m advocating satan). But when you are actually playing the game, having the wheel access and the easier to use b button makes a whole lot more difference than people give it credit for.

Oh and I picked up Okami, sans watermark thankfully.

  24. dj75728 says:

@Psyco: I love my Whiil too, I feel like using the remote defeats the purpose of the Wii and it’s motion controls, it’s not like the Whiil/Wiimote mechanics are broken or anything like that(I’m looking at you Lair >_>).

And i’ve started using the wiimote for brawl too

  25. Ryan says:

Great comic. I saw a little fake “documentary” about this on G4. That was halarious!

  26. chriskatching says:

    hahaha nice one Ray! 😀

    …. Lol

  27. duduman56 says:

    who is the orange guy?

  28. kodykid168 says:

    hahaha, sweet

throw in a plug for the spindash podcast, their the reason i had to get rid of an album on my iPod to listen to you guys (completely worth it)

  29. Mirby says:

  30. Mr. Br Mario says:

Well, actually, this gender confusion about Birdo is more complicated than you may think, guys. In fact, the website The Mushroom Kingdom has an entire special page with lots of info about this subjet. It’s called Birdo: Gender Pretender. Check it out to see where this debate can actually go; you’ll be amazed by its extent.

  31. says:

Q*bert should have evolved into Birdo. In the evolution comic.
