Didn’t you hear? Doritos is looking for more video game ideas so that they can make a couple spiritual successors to Dash of Destruction for XBLA. You know, somebody’s fun idea butchered as a game for the purpose of handing out achievements like PEZ while you’re bombarded with Doritos advertisements? Ah, good times…
Glad this comic seems to be a hit with the fans! When I researched Doritos website last night, I was REALLY close to actually submitting the Lace idea to them, just because it would be amazing if it got picked! That would truly be the end of 2P START! Anyway, one idea I had didn’t make the final cut for the comic, so I just had to make it myself. This is what I would do after getting my check from Doritos.

Nice, just when I figure out what Lace is all about, she gets dusted with cheese powder and implanted with silicone. It took me a minute to figure out that she had a Doritios cape. Why is it upside down? Oh and the “cheeto fingers” are a nice touch………….. no pun intended.

I have to give props to Tim, here. While the art did not feel “up to snuff” (aside from the great, wallpaper-worthy (please!) last panel), the writing was really well done…Tim really came through on this one, and it definitely worked.

As much s I like the original Lac concept, having her battling a T-Rex with Doritos is oddly appealing. Although the sexed up version of Lace is….just….strange…..

OK, this is ONE OF THE BEST COMICS YOU GUYS EVER DID. I actually read it 5 times because it was so good! You should make a follow-up comic where it shows game play of it. (Maybe instead of the invincibility power-up being a raybobindustries logo, it could be a Dorito?) The boss you fight at the end won’t be anti-alias, it will be a giant vegetable. To beat it, you have to use the power of flavor in the Doritos! Then the last cut scene will be a Doritos commercial.

I suggest paying a smaller company like Tose (or smaller) to make the game as an Xbox Indie game. You can have your game without selling out, maybe.

Awesome comic! As soon as I saw the Doritios in Tim’s hand, I knew what was comign but it didn’t make the last panal any less funny. I dunno though, Lace kinda looks ok like that. Though I imagine it’s what she would look like if the game was ever made (with her original design of course) but then the movie rights were obtained by Michael Bay. I can see it now… Megan Fox in PixelVision the movie!

Agreed, part of the appeal of the character of Lace is the fact that there are certain things left undefined, such as in this case, a mouth. 8 Bit Mario didn’t need a mouth… I’m just sayin. But I get where Ray would draw a “sexed up” Lace to be used as a tool of the Pepsi-Co Corp. A “normal” Lace slapped on a logo wouldn’t sell chips. Its definately not EXXTREME!!! enough.
I like how next-gen Lace looks, at least she doesn’t look so creepy now that she has those sexy, sexy lips gracing her more female face and body *drools*

Anyway, GCG. I just listened to your latest pocast and your comments on Doritos: Dash of Destruction and its spirit-brother-to-be were quite enlightening.
I love the expressions on Tim and Ray’s faces, especially Ray’s look in the fifth panel. Also, seeing his face when saying “Dude, are you serious?” takes me back to the “A Turn of Events” comic, in which Tim showed more emotion than he will ever show again.
Can we get a lacet panel wallpaper. (look, I tried to fuse last and Lace and it just didn’t work, OK?)

But she’s not that busty, in fact, this update makes her look more human…I know it’s the intention that she doesn’t have a face, but I can’t help but feeling that if this new Lace was actually in a game, she’d be a lot easier to connect with than the older Lace. For some reason she actually kind of reminds me of Samus (and kinda Mia Fey too) with this update and perhaps that’s why I like it even though I’m not supposed to. Though I will admit, I’m not a huge fan of the zero suit and things like that, same with Lace’s top in this, but other than that she looks like a more modern video game character, and I imagine THAT is the exact problem. The updated Lace is the opposite of what Lace is supposed to be and I get that. But it’s an improvement for me because I grew up in the N64 era, and I’m not a fan of older games.
So summary:
I like updated Lace better, but I understand that it’s the opposite of the intentions for the character.
So you’re wrong, but at least you admit it. 😉
It’s funny how they would update Lace like that while Ray would refuse.
This comic is just that much more ironically funny because of the last panel:
1) Lace’s look is exactly the reason why Ray would be furious about submitting a Lace game to Doritos, as the butchering of the original concept would drive Ray absolutely nutty.
2) As soon as it was out, we would all swiftly and gleefully download and play Flavor Vision ASAP, convinced we were doing so out of loyalty to 2PStart!

I was planning to wait until Podcast #100 to “rise from my grave,” but this comic was too awesome not to comment on. I enjoy most (if not all) of your comics, and while there were many that’ve made me grin or maybe even snicker a bit, this was the first comic to actually make me laugh out loud — particularly at the tagline of the last panel, and Tim’s bonus panel with the pool full of
moneyDoritos.Anyhow, I’ve been following 2P-Start since Comic #112, have read all of your comics, and have almost finished listening to all of your Podcasts (which in my opinion are even better than the already great comics). Keep up the awesome work, Tim and Ray!

Lace being, partially creepy for some reason (maybe the ad of more feminine aspect in a respond to last week’s before to last panel as mentioned in the podcast)I preffer the simplier version now, feel more like it should, even thought you created the character and only you know how it should look…. yeah… pretty good comic actually, pays off for those who listen to the podcast (wich won’t be present this weekend))

Hey! I believe I have now risen from my grave. I’ve been watching from the shadows since Play? I found it playing with the stumble button have loved it ever since. I love your comics and Podcasts. When I saw the doritos in Tim’s hand I thought there was something wrong with me computer.
Okay, so I’ve been a little busy of late and haven’t had the chance to post much since last week. It’s all good.
Just like this comic. (See what I did there? That’s what we call a segue, and I’m not talking about that goofy gyro-scooter-thing.)
But seriously, this comic is a good one. I see it as being especially good, since it shows that Ray is able to force himself to bastardize something he cherishes, just for the sake of a few laughs. And don’t worry about running out of material Ray, once we’re done pointing and laughing at the crushed and disfigured forms of your hopes and dreams, I figure the next best place to drill for comedy gold would be cherished childhood memories.
And on a closing note, and correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the first 2P Start logo without the ever-present stickmen? I think so.
(On second thought, don’t bother correcting me, even if I am wrong. I’d probably just ignore you and go on believing what ever I want to believe. Just the way the mole-men want it!)
