Heart Man

Ray It was getting down to the wire, so we chose to do this joke after many fruitless hours of running around in circles chasing dozens of different Mega Man jokes. I won’t spoil any of them here, so you’ll just have to wait for episode #118 of 2P START! Live!

  2. blaster says:

    Nice comic guys!
It also explained how that pink Megaman in your anti-valentines appeared.

  3. DD says:

I laughed at this much harder than I ever should have. Good show, few webcomics get a laugh out of me these days.

  4. Rydash says:

Ahh, I should’ve seen this one coming, but I enjoyed this.

Though I still think pink Megaman, no matter what weapon, is girly. Yay, close-minded me.

  5. GX Echidna says:

Proof that the art of the visual pun is not dead.

  6. Supersonic24 says:

Ha! See this is the kind of pun that is actually funny. Sorry guys, but “No cutting!” was the worst 2PSTART comic ever.

  7. TheKickAwesome says:

Well, I think I’m gonna be the first “grave riser” from the comic!
I’ve been reading for close to six months and have heard all of the podcasts and read all of the comics at least three times. The highlight of my week is the Monday and Thursday (used to be Wednesday *grumble grumble*) releases, and you guys never fail to make me laugh.

NCG, loved the joke in this one!
You’ll be seeing a lot more of me!

  8. Teengamer says:

NCG. Pure and simple. I like it when you guys pick something I can understand! ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. The Gastronomic Gamer says:

That was quite literally a laugh out loud emanating from my lips. Well done.

  10. Retl says:

This is the Kill Screen from Mega Man/XI or MM11 or whatever it’s called, isn’t it? Because I’m pretty sure there’s no way to prevent him from taking the weapon once you beat Heart Man, and I’m not sure you can get to Wily without beating that stage. Unless there’s one of those alternate-exit things, but I doubt it. Most of the times those alternate exits make you redo the stage as if you had died, anyway. At least there’s challenge mode to keep me occupied until they make a patch (or I give up and use Gecko OS).
Boo, Capcom. You know better than to have game-breaking bugs in your games *Coughguile’shandcuffsCough*.

  11. Person Number 3 says:

Haha, this is one of, to me, your best jokes! As has been said before, visual gags are still pretty darn good. Good job guys, and, as a probably stupid request, but I’m reall excited for Pokemon Heartgold and SoulSilver. If you didn’t know, they come out this Sunday. I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but I think (and probably some other people too) it would be REALLY cool if next Monday’s T-t-t-topic of the Week was those games.

But overall, nice job, keep dong nice jobs, and stay good!

  12. TheLupineOne says:

I hate to admit it, but I sniggered.
Not one of the best, but still good.
By the way, you haven’t archived this yet.

  13. Literaryhero says:

I never post comments here, but today I feel like I have to. This is the first comic to ever make me laugh out loud, and that is saying a lot, since I spend half my day reading webcomics (yay boring office job).

  14. Lee says:

Same as Literaryhero, I’ve never posted anything on 2P Start, but I’ve read the comics and listened to the podcasts for ages (like a year or something), but I feel I must post on this comic. I’ve never even really played any Mega Man, but I chuckled at this comic, twice. On different visits to the site, it’s just so well delivered.

  15. hippieguy2 says:

Well I think it’s time for me to Rise from my Grave. I have been constantly reading since comic 57 and listing to the podcast since 98. I just wanted to say that this is one of my favorites. Your stuff just helps me get through the week with laughs and snickers every Monday and thursday. Keep up the good work. (PS: I expect a Playstation Move joke next week)

  16. spamwise says:

I’m not sure what I was waiting for specifically, but a sight gag/pun plus a Mega Man comic is as good a time as any to “rise and shine”. I was first linked to this site for the product placement comic (#131 Purely Subtle). I immediately read the archive and have been back weekly since. I picked up the podcasts at around that time frame (August 2009). I haven’t gone historical yet, but do enjoy my weekly dose.
Thanks for the ongoing entertainment. It sure does Rock, man. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. boxless says:

wow talk about ‘giving love a bad name’

  18. Underyx says:

    Oh my god.
This is the kind of pun that hurts, but still, I laugh.
    Really nice one.
    Oh my god.

  19. Highwater Trousers says:

While heart attacks are not humorous at all, this comic made me laugh. Although initially, I saw the hearts and thought there was going to be a Fantasy Zone/Opa-Opa joke. Now, this does seem to be one of your guys’ more straight-forward jokes, but I enjoyed it. If Mega Man does survive this, I’ll expect to see him doing commercials for Lipitor or at least Bayer aspirin. Hey, it could just be the most interesting videogame-product tie-in. You know, Mega Strength Aspirin, get it? Funny comic guys.

Also forgot to mention – Happy early Birthday Ray! Just remember, getting older brings about more wisdom… that you can use to find fault with those younger than you.

    • Retl says:

      Upset Stomach?
      Heart Burn?
Get equipped with new Mega Strength Aspirin, and keep your jets running all day so you can rock and roll all night all day long.
Get Your Weapons Ready at the nearest local pharmacy near you!

      • Highwater Trousers says:

Also perfect for your late night Mega Man 10 no getting hurt playthroughs!
        “Uhhhh… I can’t believe I beat the whole thing!”

  20. roadjcat says:

Hey, a Megaman comic, I don’t have to play Megaman to get! SCG!

  21. Snifit says:

At first I was expecting Mega Man to be clutching his chest at the next boss fight but seeing hi collapse seemed so much better. The simpler the joke the better. Good comic.
Also is Heart Man Crystal Man? He looks fairly similar…

    • Snifit says:

I just want to clarify that Crystal Man comment. I’m not criticizing the art Ray but more the fact that Wily sticks to about five good ideas for Robot Masters and just remakes those same ideas.

Actually, Heart Man is a pretty neat design.

  22. Nebula427 says:

Awesome comic, guys. I can’t imagine what other jokes you could have been considering. None of them could have been better than this.

  23. Jarkes says:

    Lol. Just lol.

  24. Scotty_GO says:

Hey guys. Being a big Mega Man fan I thought I’d use this comic to ‘rise from my grave’. My copy of Mega Man 1 still has the price sticker attached. People complain about the price of games here yet Mega Man was still ยฃ35 back then! I’ve been dead and buried since comic #116 Living the Dream and I’ve listened to every podcast since then. Thanks Ray and Tim for all of the hours of laughter you’ve brought to all your readers and listeners! The ridiculous Wii bundles on the podcast a while ago is one of the funniest podcast moments ever.

  25. Bobipine says:

That explain why megaman can’t shoot up… Heart man is shooting up, and look, it’s really useless, I mean, how hard can it be to dodge falling hearts (memories of wood man coming back)… never mind, can be challenging.. well as long love is in the air…

I had better comments, anyway, enjoyed this week’s comic as usual. Is the background for the boss room represent something specific, or it’s just for aesthetic sake?

  26. Curaga says:

Great comic guys, this has got to be one of my favorites, mostly because its just a quick gag that’s pretty clever. Also, the execution was absolutely perfect, that’s definitely what puts the cherry on top for this one.

  27. JackitK says:

I’m not sure if it counts as a “rise from grave” if its the first time ever your posting, so I don’t know if I should say that. I’ve been reading your comics for longer than I can remember, maybe a year? And I just now made a post. New record! Right?

Anyways to actually talk about the comic now. ๐Ÿ˜› This was a basic, yet great joke. ๐Ÿ˜€ “Heart Attack” so basic yet I didn’t see it coming till I saw Mega Man “dead?” on the ground. It actually got a single laugh out of me even though it shouldn’t. I guess it was because it was so simple no one saw it coming.

Anyways keep up the great work you guys. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • zeldadude says:

No to that for a “year thing”. One guy was on since comic 2 and he just posted on uh, whichever one I had bad grammar.

  28. Kvb says:

    Superb comic, guys!

Can’t wait to hear what the other jokes were. If they’re as good as this one, that’ll be an awesome podcast for sure.

  29. Mattalorian says:

  30. DrOswald says:

    Really good pun.

  31. TheNinjaMouse says:

Pfft–hahahaha! For some reason, this made me laugh harder than any comic in awhile. I think I was expecting Megaman to be shooting hearts in the last panel while looking annoyed that he had obtained such a girly attack, so the broken expectation was priceless. NCG and thanks!

    • Talduras says:

Agreed. The progression is such that the reader doesn’t quite get what the punchline will be until it hits him/her, though the second-to-last panel provides a great hint.

      Success indeed. =D

  32. Talduras says:

Nice comic guys. Gave me a good laugh (which I sadly had to stifle, being in a classroom and all).

But I’m worried you may bend the fabric of reality with this one. I mean, a machine dying of a heart attack? For one thing, I’d worry about getting sued by the people who own the rights to the Wizard of Oz, though I suppose you dodged that bullet by Mega Man being made of some sort of space-age metal rather than tin (we’ll say it’s poly-titaniatimondium). But, more importantly, if machines can now die from heart attacks, you’ve now opened the doors for living beings dying from computer viruses, freezing, and, worst of all, blue screening. We’d have to update ourselves to Macs, but that’d still give us the freezing problem… though that would involve swirly hypnotic colors. ^_^

…Wait a minute. That begs the question. Does the Blue Bomber ever blue-screen? (yeah, bad pun).

    • Dark_Devin says:

Hi I’m a pc and I haven’t gotten a virus in years…maybe that’s cause I actually know how to protect myself XD. Macs have many more vulnerabilities then PC but no one makes Mac viruses cause there would be no profit in it, artists don’t have money, that’s why they are called ‘starving artists’.

  33. B'joy-hoy says:

I’ve been smiling at this for the last 10 mins, that gag is just fantastic, far better than it has any right to be. Thanks, it’s been a great end to my working day.

Heartman brought my love to you ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. Apkinesis says:

I laughed out loud ๐Ÿ˜€ Not being much of a fan or player of the Megaman games, while reading I was wondering if I’d even get the joke; needless to say it was broad enough for me to still very much enjoy. Simple, but super effective! (Wait, wrong reference.) VNCG!

  35. Dark_Devin says:

NCG, of course I do have to wonder…usually the attack you get is also used by the boss…so does that mean that ‘heartman’ had multiple heart attacks? BAD MEGAMAN BEATING UP A FRAIL ROBOTMASTER JUST RECOVERING FROM SURGERY!

  36. TomX says:

Rofl nice one guys. Somehow I didn’t see that coming. Success!

  37. Keja says:

    Haha… Great Comic Guys!

  38. Myuu says:

“Heart attack”. Good one. Best one on this site in a long time.

  39. yeah568 says:

This is awesome. I mean, I’ve never even played Megaman (EVER) and it was still funny. You just need to know what Megaman IS, wait… Am I just repeating what Ray said in that podcast about the LOST comic…?

    Anyways, NCG!

And I have to stare in shock that there’s seven people so far who have Risen from their Graves. (That capitalization is weird. >.>) Have fun in the podcast! ๐Ÿ˜€

  40. KnucklesE says:

That is hilarious! Funniest comic you have made yet!

  41. Retl says:

I’m assuming Heart Man was built to produce hearts for the Hero of Legend in the green tunic. Dr. Light had the foresight that someday the world would need a new champion, and created Heart Man to be sealed away until the proper date to help that champion.

Unfortunately, Wily immediately highjacked Heart Man and programmed him to attack critical public establishments. And so Mega Man had to take him down.

  42. Mr. Guy says:

    Heart Man
    Weakness: Cholesterol Beam

  43. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Haha, Great Comic Guys! This Mega Pun seemed to flow better than the Cutman one, which really helps to make it a better comic overall.

  44. Rydash says:

One other thing. Maybe Mega Man should’ve recieved…

THE POWER OF LOVE (insert musical sting)

  45. wazkatango says:

What kind of lame power is heart, anyway?

  46. BadnikHunter says:

    Oh wow, that was great.

  47. ultimateDK says:

    i…cant believe…i didnt see that coming…ncg!

  48. zeldadude says:

much ncg to you wise grasshopper.
but seriousley I LOVE THIS COMIC exclamation point! when i saw the main page i thought โ€œwow a valentiNES now?โ€ the i read to the โ€œheart attackโ€ panel and thougt โ€œisn`t that a pokรจmon attack?โ€ saw last panel expecting โ€œmegadelcattyโ€ or something. and laghed.
sorry for any spelling am posting from my DSi.

    • Myuu says:

So, I guess the DSi works as a fully functioning mobile device, to an even greater degree than the PSP, as well as being a DS. Pretty cool.

Meh, I’m still on my old original model DS. Not the lite, the ORIGINAL. It’s around 5 years old and I’ve replaced the battery pack twice. One of the hinges is broke and the top screen produces a slightly discolored picture. Still, it’s not in bad enough condition to justify paying over a hundred dollars for a new one.

  49. koollizard says:

This is a great one guys also how come when i go to the arcive i cant find this one in there?

  50. Kyzin says:

Don’t worry guys, Mega Man is fine. With the power of Heart, anything is possible!

  51. Abso1uteZero says:

  52. Sir Bladington XIII says:

First time I’ve posted. I’ve been reading every week since the Brawl in the Family guest strip, and I must say, it’s been quite a good comic. I would have posted sooner, but I have the need to check out everything on a site before I’ve signed up. Of course, I saw the podcasts. >_>

Anyway, I like the comic this week, but it was a bit scary how Heart Man seems like a robot master Capcom would make, alongside Tide Man, Cinder Man, Barrier Man, Robot Man, Hawk Man, and Manthisisthelongestrunonsentencei’veevertyped Man. But anyway, NCG. ๐Ÿ˜›

  53. ZaxCG2 says:

    I snickered…

  54. JSG says:

    OOOOOHHHHH I get the joke!

If that was a real weapon, you can only use it once. Besides, where else would you find hearts?

    • Talduras says:

In Hyrule. Apparently they’re everywhere in that land.

In bushes, pots, under rocks, skulls, grass, monsters (even the all-bone ones), and even out of thin air, not to mention the larger hearts formed from pieces obtained from cucco hunting, digging, mini-games, tree thumping, boulder destruction, mini-games, burning stuff, un-burning stuff, freezing stuff, at the bottom of lakes, people that give them to you because they apparently have no use for them, mini-games, killing overly large monsters, in caves, in other caves, in even more other caves, fishing, more mini-games, rare obscure hard-to-find shops, treasure chests, jumping in the air whilst holding a cucco, using musical instruments, mini-games again, planting beans, planting more beans, going broke and insane by planting even more beans, falling into a hallow tree, using the batarang boomerang on stuff, using the hook shot on stuff, using bombs on stuff, using more bombs on stuff, and… finally having to end your hunt for heart pieces because you got caught and arrested after you burned half of Kakariko village to the ground when trying to blow up a wall with cracks in it.

      Good times…

  55. Andy says:

Thats not funny, should be; New attack!……………… Heart Attack!

    Not new wepon.

  56. Ryman says:

I’m a tad late, and I guess this comment is goin’ go to waste…but what da heck.

If Megaman beat metal sonic, would his attack be disappointing his enemy?

  57. Anon says:

    Happy Birthday, Ray!

  58. Alex says:

Best comic eva! Ive laugh so hard! Greetings from ARGENTINA! (down here we read comix, yeah!)

  59. Acher4 says:

    Okay that was seriously Priceless!

  60. TheLupineOne says:

This is how popular Heart Man is.

Bear in mind this deviant has created 8-bit styles like this for EVERY Mega Man character to be shown in 8-bit. (I think.). Even Reggae.

  61. Mirby says:

This comic was a smash hit over at Rockman PM. Way to go!

  62. KcThrows says:

This was some what funny ๐Ÿ˜› It made me laugh, but I’ve enjoyed your other ones much more! Thanks again!

  63. Undeyx says:

Dammit, I miss you guys ๐Ÿ™
